Explore OM Parvat- An Unreal Sacred Mountain of Uttarakhand

Explore Om Parvat is a stunning mountain in the Himalayan range, located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. Om Parvat, standing at a height of 5,570 meters above sea level, is an ancient and sacred mountain that holds a unique charm, along with a deep religious significance.

Why OM Parvat named as OM Parvat

It is called OM Parvat because when you look at the mountain, you can see a unique rock formation that resembles the sacred Hindu symbol ‘Om’ (ॐ). The OM formation is visible at the peak of the mountain, which feels nothing less than a miracle. India has only five places with this OM formation.

Aum (Om) is a sacred sound and symbol representing the universe’s essence. Chanting Aum (OM ॐ) helps calm the mind, balance energy, and promote inner peace and well-being.  People used to chant here Bhole Baba Ki jai, Jai Shiv Shankar, Har Har Mahadev and Om Namah Parvati Pataye, Har Har Mahadeva (‘ॐ नमः पार्वती पतये, हर-हर महादेव’ ).

Few Main Attractions in OM Parvat Spiritual Journey

Here just a brief overview of in route details. When you move ahead from Gunji village, you will notice the river flowing alongside the road, known as the Kali River. Since the path is through a remote area, it is not very well-developed. But if you’re looking for an adventurous road trip, this route will fulfill that wish. After all, if we’re going to visit Lord Shiva’s darshan, wouldn’t it be more fun to experience the journey rather than just take a comfortable, easy ride?

Kalapani is about 8 to 10 km from Gunji village. It is home to the Kali Mata temple, and it is from here that the Kali River originates. The source of the Kali River is believed to be the feet of Kali Mata. The water flows as a stream, and when it meets a river coming from a glacier, it continues as the Kali River. In India, it is known as the Kali River, while in Nepal, it is called the Sharda River. The Kali River flows towards Tanakpur and eventually merges with the Sharda River.

Vyas Gufa

Located at Kalapani, this cave is named after Maharshi Ved Vyasa. It is believed that Maharshi Ved Vyasa meditated here and dictated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha in this very spot.

Shesh Naag Parvat

Shesh Naag Parvat is located on the route between Gunji and Nabidhang in Uttarakhand. It can be seen from Kalapani. This mountain is said to resemble Shesh Naag, the king of all snakes. From Kalapani, it’s approximately 9 km to reach Nabhidhang.

Nabhidhang

This is the last stop for OM Parvat. Nabhidhang is located between Om Parvat, Mount Kailash, and Adi Kailash Parvat. As of now, it is not possible to climb Om Parvat, so the darshan of Om Parvat is done from Nabhidhang.
